Dicovery Kingdom Stories

Read stories from some of our dedicated DK volunteers about how serving in our children's ministry is impacting their lives and the children they serve.

I love how Ephram (4th grader) looks forward to attending Sunday School every week.  He is especially excited when Mr. Sebastian serves because according to Ephram “Mr. Sebastian somehow can relate every bible story to a video game.”  Mr. Sebastian makes every effort to connect with the students and hooks them with topics of interest all the while teaching them to build a deeper relationship with Jesus.

I have enjoyed serving in DK with the 4th-5th graders. They usually end up teaching me throughout the lesson. It's also very exciting in that moment they are all engaged at the same time and truly listening. God is really moving in DK and I am so thrilled to be a part of it.

I serve in the 3-4 year old class 2 Sunday's per month. I love the kids in that class. It is so cool to hear them call my name when I walk by the class or if they see me in the church. They put smile on my face. VBS was fun with the same kids I serve on Sunday's also!

Ryan & Carrie Tillman

We are Ryan and Carrie Tillman and have been going to The Brook Church for about 4 years now.  We have a daughter named Zoey who is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade.  We are extremely passionate about teaching the 2nd & 3rd grade group at The Brook.  We are driven to make a difference in each one of the children’s lives by not only teaching them about the Word of God but how to become the next generation of leaders. Each time we teach, we are excited about connecting them with Jesus and helping them understand that they too are Disciples of Christ.  As stated in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”  Our family is thrilled to be part of DK and we look forward to continue bringing Christ into the hearts of our children for generations to come

Being a part of the DK team has truly brought me so much joy. I get to experience our little ones learning about God’s word and having so much fun doing so! It truly is about planting seeds in their hearts and exhibiting to them God’s amazing love. My girls have come to love being a part of DK as have I as a volunteer. God is good!

I have been a DK volunteer for 10 years now. I have enjoyed serving the little members of our church and seeing their sweet faces as they come to learn about God's word.

DK has made an amazing impact on my boys. They love going to church! Thank you to the amazing buddies and teachers that serve. The buddy system allows my boys to come and have a special helper alongside them. I am beyond grateful that this was set-up for my children that have special needs. I come to church worry free knowing they are happy, learning, and well cared for. Thank you to all my fellow DK volunteers!

Our family has been a part of The Brook Church for 12 years now and Rob and I have been greatly blessed by serving in DK. Between the two of us, we have been volunteers in various classes, been the nursery/toddler leader, the 3rd-5th grade leader, served on the DK music team, security monitor, have served on the recharge team, and have fed kids at VBS. During our time at The Brook, our 3 children have been privileged to grow up here. Two of them, Reagan and Gracie, have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and have been baptized at The Brook, and it is our prayer that when RJ is ready, he will do the same. The greatest joy I get from serving is watching the children of The Brook grow from babies into these beautiful Christians who love the Lord and have a heart for God. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

DK has been a blessing in many ways:

1) I am able to share Jesus with our future. 2) Being committed to something holds me accountable and slows me down to focus on others. 3) They are so cute and funny — they make me smile. 4) The children help me to be more patient. 5) It helps me to be more creative in my approach in teaching about the love of Christ.

We serve together in the K/1st grade classroom. We love getting to know each child. Being able to watch them grow and learn more about Christ is a great blessing.

Serving in DK has allowed me to realize how much children absorb at an early age and how important it is to start them off with biblical values and Truth when they are young.  They will get their fair share of nonsense the world has to throw at them which is why it is important to shower them with the love of Jesus.  Serving in DK makes me feel part of something bigger than myself.  It’s exciting to watch these children develop into young Christians and know that God used me as a vehicle for their growth.
