Rest for your Soul

Robby Pollard, Lead Pastor

“Come on in. Sit down. Stay a while”

Rest.

Matthew 11:28-30

28Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

“What can I do to glorify the Lord my God who has been so gracious to me?”
“Endeavour to bring sinners to Jesus. Nothing is sweeter to him than that, for he loves the sons of men.”
“But how can I bring sinners to Christ?”
“If you would preach sinners to Christ you must preach Christ to sinners, for nothing so attracts the hearts of men as Jesus himself.”

Matthew 11:29

29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Kenosis

Philippians 2:5-8

5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Matthew 11:29

29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 11:28

28Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

John 1:19, 23, 27

19And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

23He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

27even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”

John 1:29-30

29The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’

Matthew 11:12

12From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.

Matthew 11:16-19

16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their playmates, 17“‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ 18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.”

Matthew 11:29

29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 12:8

8For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”

Matthew 12:10

10And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him.

Matthew 12:13-14

13Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. 14But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how to destroy him.
