Wisdom From Above?

Robby Pollard, Lead Pastor

If you could ask God for one thing, and you knew he would give it to you, what would you ask for?

2 Chronicles 1:7

7In that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask what I shall give you.”

2 Chronicles 1:10

10Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great?”

James 3:13

13Who is wise and understanding among you?

James 3:13-18

13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

James 3:13-14

13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.

James 2:18

18But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

James 3:13

13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.

James 3:13-14

13Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.

Matthew 15:8

8“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;

The works of our lives begin in our hearts.

James 3:14-15

14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

If a man thinks he has wisdom but his heart is filled with selfish ambition and jealousy, he is boastful, dishonest, worldly, unspiritual, demonic, this wisdom is not from above.

James 1:17

17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

James 3:16

16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

James 3:17

17But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Galatians 5:22-23, 25

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Philippians 4:8

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

James 3:18

18And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

“Sowing strife will not produce a harvest of righteousness.”

James 1:19-21

19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
