Wisdom is receiving, believing and living the Word of God.

Proverbs 4:14-18

14Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. 15Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on. 16For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong; they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble. 17For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. 18But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

Proverbs 4:14, 18

14Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil.

18But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

Proverbs 4:18-19

18But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. 19The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.

Proverbs teach discernment and require it.

Wisdom is receiving, believing and living the Word of God.

Proverbs 4:1-3

1Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight, 2for I give you good precepts; do not forsake my teaching. 3When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,

Proverbs 4:4-5

4he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. 5Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.

Proverbs 4:6-9

6Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. 7The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. 8Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. 9She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”

“she will keep you” (v6)
“she will guard you” (v6)
“she will exalt you” (v8)
“she will honor you” (v8)
“adorn your life” (v9)

Proverbs 4:10-12

10Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many. 11I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness. 12When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.

Proverbs 4:12

12When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.

Wisdom is receiving, believing and living the Word of God.

Proverbs 4:13

13Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.

Proverbs 4:13

13Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.

Proverbs 4:14-15

14Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. 15Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.

Choose carefully.
Proverbs 12:26

26One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Choose wise friends.
Proverbs 13:20

20Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Choose those with self-control.
Proverbs 22:24-25

24Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, 25lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.

Choose honesty.
Proverbs 16:28

28A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.

Choose character.
1 Corinthians 5:11

11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.

1 Corinthians 15:33

33Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”

Choose trustworthiness.
Proverbs 20:19

19Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler.

Choose refiners.
Proverbs 27:17

17Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 4:14-15

14Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. 15Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.

Proverbs 4:20-27

20My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. 23Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. 24Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. 25Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. 26Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. 27Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

Keep wisdom in your heart. Keep your heart with all vigilance.

1 Kings 3:3

3Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places.

1 Kings 3:5

5At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.”

1 Kings 3:9

9Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

1 Kings 11:1-3

1Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2from the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the people of Israel, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love. 3He had 700 wives, who were princesses, and 300 concubines. And his wives turned away his heart.

1 Kings 11:4

4For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

An unguarded heart will lead to a misguided life.
